2 Cm Granite In Kitchen

I have been told that i need to put down a underlayment of plywood on my counter tops under the granite.
Most prefab granite countertops are a 2cm body but have a 4cm laminated edge. Is it style or substance. In the stone industry there are 2 primary options 2cm 3 4 or 3cm 1 1 4. To help on this the island does not have any cutouts and will have one end with a 10 overhang.
Only thing is that it is 2 cm vs 3cm. What are the issues with using 2 cm. The problem is that in my area most granite is 3cm. We finally after months of looking found a piece of exotic granite that we love for the island in the new kitchen we are putting in.
I have found a very beautiful 2cm granite which i love. In areas with a high risk of impact sinks for example a 2 mm radius edging is recommended as this is the best option for the look and durability. This can be done with any thickness of material. I m holding out for the 3 cm to come in.

Does anyone know anything about this. And the 2 cm with double edging which is 4 cm thick though for looking. What kind of plywood regular cabinet quality m. Prefab quartz countertops can be a 1cm body with a 2cm edge 1 2 cm body with a 2 4 cm edge or a 2cm body with a 4cm edge.
There are two options listed one is for 3 cm slabs the other is for 2 cm slabs plus laminated edge for 2 cm material quarter round p 5 16 radius top edge 1 8 bevel bottom edge. 4 cm 2 for chunkier applications such as an island. 2 cm granite slabs went out of favor mostly because they involve extra work which equates more expenses for you the homeowner. And about the quality they are the same only the edging finishing different you can see the joint for 2 cm because it s double edging but no joints on the 3 cm edging because it s one piece.
